Failure is NOT an Option - It's a RequirementWHAT! Failure is a requirement, what is this guy talking about.  I hate to fail.

Yes, I am telling you that without failure there is no growth or learning.  Most people steer so far away from failure that they never are able to learn from their mistakes or go to those areas in their lives that will give them the great success they desire.

John Maxwell wrote a great book, “Failing Forward” and it talks about the value and necessity of making your failures a time of moving forward in your life not backwards.  Learning how to make the most of your failures.

The norm for most people is do everything we can to avoid failure.  We find ourselves not trying new experiences, not taking new paths in life, and so many other things just because of the FEAR of FAILURE!

Think about it, how many times have you started a project and because of fear of failure quit in the middle of it.  We all have done this many times and I can tell you it has cost us a life of abundance.

If you think that you can go through life without ever experiencing any failure, you not only are deceiving yourself, you are going to be devastated when failure comes and it WILL!

So knowing that this thing of failure in inevitable what do we do?  Do we try to avoid it and just minimize the effects of the times we just can’t, or do we embrace it and as John Maxwell says learn to Fail Forward?

I wrote an article awhile back on “Two Famous Failures“, Thomas Edison and Abraham Lincoln.  Can you imagine if these two individuals had just quit or given up after their first or even second failures?

It’s not how we avoid the failures and struggles in life, it’s how we handle them.  Failures are going to come so don’t let that fear debilitate you and stop you from having an amazing life.  Learn how to make the most from your failures and turn them into victories and huge learning experiences.

Watch this short video, that I love that’s from the movie Rocky Balboa and get up and have an incredible and successful day of failures and falling forward

This was in a Huffington post article that I think is great and lays out some of the cool things we can learn from our mistakes.

Here they are as listed in this article.

  1. Mistakes teach us to clarify what we really want and how we want to live.
  2. Mistakes teach us to accept ourselves and that we can be flawed and be loved.
  3. Mistakes teach us to accept our fallibility and face our fear.
  4. Mistakes teach us about ourselves and how to tell our truth.
  5. Mistakes teach us, through analysis and feedback, about what works, and what doesn’t.
  6. Mistakes teach us to take responsibility.
  7. Mistakes teach us about integrity.
  8. Mistakes teach us to engage in our lives — to live fully.
  9. Mistakes allow us to inspire others.
