It amazes me all the time when people think there are so many MLM Objections to their business. The reality is that there are only 5 top MLM Objections that have been around forever!
Handling objections are all about asking questions and finding out exactly where the pain really is. Many years ago I spent a weekend locked in a hotel with an incredible sales trainer Tom Hopkins.
He’s written a multitude of books on Low Profile Selling that’s all about Asking Questions to Handle Objections.
Handling MLM Objections is no different than handling any sales objections. Tom Hopkins forte was Real Estate.
So Here are The 5 Top MLM Objections
1. I just don’t have the time.
So how many times have you heard this one “I just don’t have the time for anything else.” We’ve all heard this at one time or another.
You need to ask them questions for two reasons. One you need to find where their pain is and two to get the answer to the solution you have to offer.
Here’s a question I have used over the years that has worked really well.
“If I could show you a way that you could earn some extra money and free up some of your time to spend with your family is that something you might be interested in?”
Understanding that busy people are really the kind of people we like in our Home Based Business because they are typically hard workers and have a great work ethic.
So you need to find out if being so busy is something they enjoy or something they have to do to make ends meet.
2. I don’t have the money.
This is another one of those objections that everyone has heard at some point. Again start by asking them questions.
Most people though would love to change their situation and make things better for their family. You just need to find out what they would do if the situation was changed.
I always like to ask questions to get them thinking about a brighter future. Things like “If money and time weren’t a concern what would you and your family just love to do or have?”
This gets them dreaming again. Once they are dreaming and seeing possibilities the next question would be something like this. “If your car broke down tomorrow and you just had to have it working would you be able to get the money?”
Ninety percent of the time the answer to this is a resounding YES! Then I would ask “If I could show you how you could make an extra $500 a month is that equally as important as fixing your car for your family?”
Again here’s where I would get another YES except now you have just got rid of the “I don’t have the money objection.”
You can probably see the pattern at this point. They way to dispell any MLM Objections is to ASK QUESTIONS!
3. I need to talk to someone else about this.
This one is not as common but certainly is used a lot. This is one that is used to shut things down and get out of being pitched or sold anything.
They take to decision-making process out of their hands and put it somewhere else so you can’t go forward any longer.
One of the first questions that I would ask someone is “Are you the one that make this decision or would you like to have someone else here with you to help in making this decision?”
There are many variations to this question but the key is to find out if they are the sole decision maker or do we need to reschedule so the people who are involved in the decision-making process are all there.
If they answer this with a yes then you are golden to move forward if not then you need to reschedule that all there is to this.
4. I don’t think I can do it.
This objection is more on the lines of the person’s mindset. They may have tried something similar before and failed or known friends that have.
Again start by asking questions. “What is it that you think you won’t be able to do?” You are going to get a number of different answers for this question.
Things like, “I’m just not a salesperson” or “I’m not very good at talking to people” or “I could never speak in front of people.”
These are just some of the answers you could get. Here the question I will typically ask is “If I could show you a way that we will train you and get you past these challenges and make some extra money along the way is that something you think you would be interested in?”
Remember your question to them at the end is to provide a solution to their concerns and pain that was uncovered with the previous questions. This is all a part of your MLM Recruiting career, asking questions.
5. This looks like a scam/pyramid or something illegal.
Whenever I get this one I take the postured position that if you think that I would do something illegal and then try to get someone else involved I’m pretty sure this is not a fit for you.
In fact, I’m not sure that I would even want to work with an individual that thought my Home Business was an illegal scam or pyramid.
So how do I answer this objection, I don’t!
