Would You Follow You?
I was on a periscope the other day with April Marie Tucker and she asked the question, Would You Follow YOU?
It really got me thinking how many people out there are struggling with getting leads and connecting with people because they wouldn’t even follow themselves.
I thought this would be a great topic to share with you and hopefully help you go from someone no one would follow to a voice and leader in your profession.
Why Would You Follow You?
Here are a few questions you should ask yourself and honestly answer to see if you would follow you.
If you are in the business of getting leads and doing lead generation then you need to do some serious evaluation of how you look to others.
If at the end of the evaluation you wouldn’t follow you, then you have some work to do!

1. Do You Offer Value?
Are you putting value out in the community or is it all about you and what you can get. I see this every day where people are doing nothing but asking others to give and putting nothing out of value to others.
Don’t be one of those people who appear to be all for them and are giving absolutely no value back.
Post things of value on your Facebook profile and page. Value isn’t always dry facts and training. Value comes in many different flavors.
People want to know about you, not your business and they want to know what’s in it for them
2. Do You Offer Solutions?
How do you do that? You listen and ask. See what others are saying about their struggles with lead generation for example.
Once you know and understand the challenges of your target audience then you can start becoming a part of the solution instead a part of the problem.
3. Are You Pitchy?
This is a biggy. Are you the person that is always posting about your opportunity or product all over social media.
You understand that people just abhor that and will most likely never click on your links.
People want value and social fun not some pitchy salesperson barraging them with links they haven’t ASKED for!
JUST DON’T DO IT! When they ask then send them what they ask for. Until then concentrate on giving value and solutions.
4. Do you present a Professional Presence?
On your social media profiles do you present a professional, exciting and fun-loving presence or are you freaky and strange.
In this day and age of marketing and personal branding people want professional, but they also want someone they can relate to also.
You don’t want to be so professional that you are untouchable. Think about who you would want to follow, a bum or a professional who’s having success and fun in life.
5. Have you Completed Your Profile on Social Media?
This is something that you need to do. Something that I’m re-doing currently. You need to have a complete and exciting profile that people can relate to.
Social Media is just that, Social. People want to know about you and know where you came from and where you are going.
This is another place that people are checking you out to see if you are someone they would follow. Read your profile and see if you would follow you.
6. Do You Have a Good or Professional Picture of yourself?
This is pretty straightforward, but I see a lot of people with goofy strange pictures on their profiles and their blogs.
If you can get a professional picture great, if not get a friend, spouse or family member to take a good picture of you.
Just get something that is fun and somewhat professional looking. Something that shows who you are but not over the top.
7. Do You Paint a Story of Who You Are?
People do business with who they know, like and trust. You’ve probably heard that a million times, but it’s so true.
People want to hear your story. It might be just the thing that pushes them over the top and causes them to follow you instead of the other guy or gal.
You’ve probably heard the old adage “Facts Tell, Stories Sell.” This is also true. People need to relate.
You just don’t know what about your story is going to resonate with someone else.
Become a storyteller.
8. Are You Reducing the Stranger Danger Effect?
This is kind of the ultimate goal. You want to reduce the Stranger Danger effect so they will trust you and want to follow you.
Taking the time to answer the 7 above questions and change where you need to will definitely help reduce this effect.
If you are struggling with getting leads and just don’t understand why no one ever clicks on your links then maybe you need to do this self-evaluation.
Generating leads is all about getting people to WANT to connect with you. It’s all about attraction marketing and getting people to know, like and trust YOU.
We are all looking for more lead generation strategies instead of just giving out more value and solutions to our target audience.
